A kingdom untethered. A spell unbroken. A myth still breathing
Rising above the always fluctuating seas like a mirage, Montclair broke time and tide. It was a thriving nation buried far in the mountains before the scholar-turned-ruler Velsor fought to defend his domain from invading invaders. He used a potent spell to raise the entire city into the sky and cut it off from the earth below, resorting to forbidden arts.
The ground shook the night the spell took hold, and Montclair ripped itself from its foundations with a thunderous roar. Vaelor's magic, however, had flaws. Rather than rising to the sky, the city remained perpetually above the sea, never making contact with either the land or the sky. Its citizens were isolated and imprisoned within their own haven.
Montclair faded into legend as generations went by. Stories of its wealth enticed many to seek it out, and sailors reported seeing its golden spires glittering in the twilight. Not many came back. According to some, the city is still floating, its residents longing to be freed, waiting for a new ruler to break Vaelor's spell.
The citadel glistens in the last of the light as two travelers stand on a far-off hill. They come looking for solutions. Will they be the secret to Montclair's deliverance or a part of the myth?
